San Diego - It was a perfect San Diego day as "Operation I Do" commenced. the wedding planner rushes by guests as they are seated, waiting eagerly for the start time. Finally, the joyful groom comes to the front with a nervous smile on his face. The music starts, the doors open and the bride alks out lead by her father. "Operatin I Do" had begun.

"Operation I Do" is an expression of gratitude in the form of two weddings for members of the U.S. Armed Forces who were forward deployed in support of Operatin Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. "We just felt that it was our way to say think you to our troops, for giving up so much," said Lisa Jackson, Marketing Director for San Diego Magazine. More than 80 volunteers contributors stepped forward to donate their time and services to make "Operation I Do" a success.

"I walked in and looked around and the place was amazing. Just to think about all the time and effort that everyone put into this is amazing," said Dr. Virginia Knight, the bride. Knight and ALbert Swalla were the winners of a free wedding through "Operation I Do". When Knight found out that shw won the wedding she was speachless. "I was hysterical, crying, happy, speachless, ecstatic, overjoyed. It was great for us," said Knight.

With the sun setting in the background the two former Naval officers siad their vows. The flashes of cameras went off as the groom kissed the bride. "I'm just overwhelmed. What a wonderful gift for recognizing our services for America, siad Knight.

Jan Vlcek, a local resident and Army veteran, created "Operation I Do." The winners were announced Aug. 29, 2003 and the first wedding, the Miers and Grauer wedding, was held in November.

With two successful weddings, "Operation I Do" was a complete success. "thank you, I know it's a very simple phrase, but it means so much. They give so much of their time, being away from their families and everything, it just means so much to me, thank you," siad Jackson.
